The President Writes.
The sale of Corrosion House, is now complete and the money is in the bank. We are grateful to all the members who gave personal donations to enable us to purchase the property, so it is only fair that the money be ring fenced until we reach a decision on where the Institute will be relocated to.

In the meantime we have relocated to temporary office accommodation at 7B High Street Mews, Leighton Buzzard LU7 1EA. Our phone numbers and email remain the same. The office is now fully functional, thanks to the hard work of all the staff. An area has been partitioned off to form a small meeting room which comfortably seats eight people. Our first meeting there, was the Science Council pre-review, prior to our licence review which is due next year.

I am pleased to say that the only reservations were the number of Charted Scientist awards we had made and whether we were doing enough to publicise Chartered Scientist. There must be many of you who are qualified to apply. If you have a master's level degree and four years relevant experience then you qualify. We are hoping to introduce a fast track application form for those members suitably qualified. The next big event is EUROCORR 2008 which will be held in Edinburgh and details can be Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Institute which was originally the British Association of Corrosion Engineers which later became the Institute of Corrosion Science and Technology, more recently shortened to the Institute of Corrosion. We are planning some special events to mark the anniversary.

Recently I had the honour of presenting a special award to David H Deacon, who although not a founder member, (he's not quite that old) he has been a member for forty years and has dedicated most of that time to the service of the Institute.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented at the London Branch / OCCA joint meeting on 15th April. This was very appropriate as David has been a member of OCCA longer than he has been a member of the Institute.
