Activities + Meetings
The CSD runs a successful annual conference in September targeted at up and coming research work with a strong student involvement. The 2008 Corrosion Science Symposium (CSS) will be held in Edinburgh from Sept 8-9 in conjunction with Eurocorr. The technical programme will include localised corrosion, corrosion of light alloys, corrosion modelling, scanning electrochemical techniques and corrosion in drinking water systems. There will also be a range of instrument demonstrations and a lively social programme.
For more details or to submit an abstract contact Dr Gareth Hinds [Tel: +44 (0) 20 8943 7147, E-mail: gareth.hinds@npl.co.uk].
Awards
2009 UR Evans Award
Nominations are requested for the Institute of Corrosion's premier award. The UR Evans Award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of corrosion science. The 2008 recipient will be Professor David Young of the University of New South Wales, who will be presented with the award at the 49th Corrosion Science Symposium in September 2008. The award is in the form of a steel sword mounted on an engraved plinth.
Nominations for the 2009 award in the form of a CV and full publication list should be sent to the CSD chair no later than the end of April 2008.
2008 Galloway Award
The Galloway Award is a prize awarded annually to an outstanding student in the field of corrosion science and engineering. Candidates should be registered students (either postgraduate or undergraduate) at the closing date, 31st May 2008. The award is open to students of any nationality. The award is given on the basis of a short technical article of two A4 pages in length (including figures), describing specific research that entrants have carried out. The winning article will be published in Corrosion Management. The award comprises a certificate and a cheque for £250.
Entries should be submitted by email before 31st May 2008 to Julian Wharton (J.A.Wharton@soton.ac.uk).
