I am interested in the most suitable treatment for salt water chloride impregnated wrought iron historic ship's hulls. Have received advice that zinc phosphate primers used after high pressure water blasting on iron which has been removed from the water (ship is on the hard and not going back into the water) has a negative effect on corrosion control and can actually accelerate the corrosion process. Any advice would be most welcome. |

Matt, might be worth taking a look at the report produced on the SS Great Britain which reviews in some detail the options comsidered. It is available for free download, type 'SS Great Britain Condition Report' into your seach engine and it should turn up.
A number of Institute members have been involved in the Cutty Sark project, so hopefully one or more of those will also respond. |
