In our last issue we outlined the continuing success of the stand bookings for the re-launch of Correx 2009 alongside the Surface World Exhibition 2009 at National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
This support for the re-launch of the Correx Exhibition has continued during the summer, even though there is a national recession and companies are being very selective on how they allocate their budgets for major marketing activities, clearly it is recognised that Correx 2009 is a major shop window for the corrosion and corrosion control industries and suppliers.
The synergy between Correx 2009 and the Surface World 2009, particularly with the associated conference and workshop programme, adjacent to the two events, has been the trigger for the support of this event.
The two themes of the conference, which covers, both coatings and cathodic protection includes, bridges, immersed structures and floodgates and corrosion protection of buildings. In our last issue we featured the bridges session and announced that we had been able to attract the Chief Engineer and Bridgemaster - Barry Colford, of the Forth Road Bridge to Chair this major session. In addition to the bridge owners and specifiers presentations there will also be contributions by coatings suppliers and coating applicators as part of this one day session.

The recent developments with the new ICATS qualification for painting operatives, has had a significant effect on a whole range of structures, not only bridges, but across the diverse range of buildings, both new as well as the refurbishment of existing structures.
The next issue of Corrosion Management will cover the immersed structures and floodgates and will also concentrate on cathodic protection, both the conference sessions and the associated workshops.
Our photograph shows the appointed chairman of the buildings session, Iain Wesley of Atkins, who will be able to comment from experience on the presentations and update delegates on the various new standards and procedures, which have been adopted over recent years.
It is important that you put the dates in your diary now, 27th 28th and 29th October, and the venue is Birmingham NEC. Look forward to seeing you all there.
