SUMMARY:London Branch - Joint Meeting with TWI
DESCRIPTION:“Electrical Hazards on Pipelines” talk given by Pat Lydon of IACS Corrosion Engineering Ltd.\n\nDr Patrick Lydon will review  the risks to pipeline integrity associated with A.C. interference and D.C stray current corrosion including hazards associated with welding on pipelines. The presentation will include photographic evidence from incidents that have occurred on projects.Pat will discuss basic safety guidance for work on pipelines located in the vicinity of overhead and buried power lines\, and factors mitigating the risks from electrical interference. These include incendive ignition risks and situations where there may be an enhanced electrical shock risk – lightning\, welding on cross country pipelines\, arc-strike effects on cross-country pipelines and arcing on pipelines installed within sleeves. \n— \nDr Patrick Lydon is a Materials\, Corrosion and Cathodic Protection Engineer with 35 years’ experience in the pipeline industry and has written gas industry standards on CP and UKOPA Good Practice Guides on AC and DC stray current interference. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry\, Fellow of the Institute of Mining\, Materials and Mineralogy and Fellow of the Institute of Corrosion. Pat is a BS EN ISO 15257 Level 4 Cathodic Protection Specialist \n\nRefreshments from 18:00 and buffet to followLocation: The Lancaster Room\, Lancaster Hall Hotel\, 35 Craven Terrace\, London W2 3EL. \nThe hotel is five minutes walk from Lancaster Gate Underground Station\nPlease register for either in-person or for online attendance. \nhttps://theweldinginstitute.com/events

SUMMARY:Aberdeen Branch Event - Joint Meeting with NACE
DESCRIPTION:Company / Speaker: Presserv / Dinko Cudic\, Global Technical Authority for visco-elastic coatings for pipework and structural steel.\nLocation: F2F meeting. Location to be announced later \nReducing the environmental footprint for surface preparation and coating application for onshore and offshore assets. \nOur industry is now accepting the need to find alternative technologies to reduce our waste and CO₂ emissions for steel preparation and coating application. \nPresserv\, and our partner STOPAQ™\, have looked at industry requirements and have developed a solution that addresses\, waste reduction\, the lowering of CO₂ and noise and thermal insulation properties\, not previously considered in fabric maintenance and asst integrity solutions. Based on a compound containing non-crystalline\, low-viscosity\, noncrosslinked (fully amorphous)\, pure homopolymer Polyisobutene\, we will discuss why this technology needs to considered as a viable option in an industry that requires straightforward maintenance solutions to difficult corrosion problems both onshore and offshore. \n

SUMMARY:CED Working Day and Symposium on ‘Knowledge Transfer and the Management of Infrastructure Corrosion’
DESCRIPTION:This one day meeting will be the latest in a series of recent working days of the Institute of Corrosion’s Corrosion Engineering Division.  The meeting will be held in person at the National Railway Museum\, York\, providing Covid restrictions allow it.  If this is not possible the meeting will be run on-line\, as for the previous two years.  This year’s meeting is wide ranging and covers ‘Knowledge Transfer and the Management of Infrastructure Corrosion’.  After the talks\, the meeting will break up into the individual CED working groups.  In parallel there will be a chance to visit the railway museum.  Where possible\, agendas for the working group meetings will be published separately in advance on the CED web site \nThe 2022 Paul McIntyre Award will be presented after the morning lectures.  This working day will be a good opportunity to network with other corrosion professionals from different industry sectors and to learn about how corrosion knowledge transfer occurs within their organisations. \nDownload Information Leaflet with full programme \nBook online \nAgenda for Coatings Working Group \nAgenda for Nuclear Working Group \n
