SUMMARY:London Branch - Joint Meeting with TWI
DESCRIPTION:“Electrical Hazards on Pipelines” talk given by Pat Lydon of IACS Corrosion Engineering Ltd.\n\nDr Patrick Lydon will review  the risks to pipeline integrity associated with A.C. interference and D.C stray current corrosion including hazards associated with welding on pipelines. The presentation will include photographic evidence from incidents that have occurred on projects.Pat will discuss basic safety guidance for work on pipelines located in the vicinity of overhead and buried power lines\, and factors mitigating the risks from electrical interference. These include incendive ignition risks and situations where there may be an enhanced electrical shock risk – lightning\, welding on cross country pipelines\, arc-strike effects on cross-country pipelines and arcing on pipelines installed within sleeves. \n— \nDr Patrick Lydon is a Materials\, Corrosion and Cathodic Protection Engineer with 35 years’ experience in the pipeline industry and has written gas industry standards on CP and UKOPA Good Practice Guides on AC and DC stray current interference. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry\, Fellow of the Institute of Mining\, Materials and Mineralogy and Fellow of the Institute of Corrosion. Pat is a BS EN ISO 15257 Level 4 Cathodic Protection Specialist \n\nRefreshments from 18:00 and buffet to followLocation: The Lancaster Room\, Lancaster Hall Hotel\, 35 Craven Terrace\, London W2 3EL. \nThe hotel is five minutes walk from Lancaster Gate Underground Station\nPlease register for either in-person or for online attendance. \nhttps://theweldinginstitute.com/events

SUMMARY:The Welding Institute - London Branch Meeting
DESCRIPTION:In-person and online meeting \nAn insight into development and testing of pipeline steels at ArcelorMittal; covering metallurgy\, welding and properties testing \nThis presentation will give some examples of work performed at ArcelorMittal Global R&D research centre in Ghent (Belgium) for linepipe steels from coil. The work is designed to give modern linepipe steels the required combination of properties that make them suitable for use in critical oil and gas applications. The talk will include discussion of metallurgical mechanisms\, weldability for submerged arc and GMAW welding and the influence of forming operations on tensile and toughness properties. \nWe are fortunate that Christoph is coming over specifically to talk to us and this talk will merit attendance in person. Given by Christoph Gerritsen Senior Project Engineer ArcelorMittal Global R&D Gent/OCAS NV Christoph Gerritsen holds an MSc in Materials Science & Engineering with a specialisation in welding from Delft University of Technology. He started his professional career in 1999 at TWI Ltd\, working on high power laser materials processing. In 2005\, he moved to ArcelorMittal Global R&D Gent in Belgium as a senior project engineer. Here\, he runs welding projects covering a very wide range of industrial applications and welding processes\, mostly for C-Mn steels. \nRefreshments from 5:30 and Buffet to follow \nLocation: The York Room\, Lancaster Hall Hotel\, 35 Craven Terrace\, London Lunite.\nThe hotel is five minutes walk from Lancaster Gate Underground Station \nPlease register for either in-person or for online attendance. https://theweldinginstitute.com/events

SUMMARY:Coating Contractor Tales – a journey of enlightenment\, ICorr London Branch Evening Meeting
DESCRIPTION:  \nVenue: Lancaster Hall Hotel\, 35 Craven Terrace\, Bayswater\, London \nSpeaker: Kevin Harold\, Paintel Ltd – Director\, ICATS – Senior Specialist Trainer \nKevin tells of his journey as a painter from the era when PPE was non-existent\, how he moved into industrial painting\, became a painting inspector and having joined the Tamar Bridge strengthening and widening project\, found the painters could not paint so he taught them. \nEven as late as the early 21st Century clients were not getting what they wanted in terms of standards or quality. \nIn 2006 he became aware of the Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS)\, registered his company\, got his workforce trained and subsequently became a trainer himself. \nThe operation and benefits of ICATS will be explained notably the evidence that the training results in major savings from less repeat work and the advantages gained by the asset owners and operators. \nKevin started Paintel in 2001 after 25 years in the Paint Industry. The company has worked on many projects in the West Country including the Tamar Bridge\, Devonport and many contracts with Highways England. \nThe current ICATS course material launched in 2018 was written by Kevin and his wife Jo and he has also written the ICATS Supervisor course and the new Managers Coating Awareness Course which provides an insight into coatings for specifiers and engineers. \nKevin is an ICorr Level 3 Coating Inspector and is currently involved in updating the Coating Inspection Courses. \nDetails of the event: \n18.15 Doors Open \n18:30 Presentation by Kevin Harold \n19.30 Refreshments and Networking \n21.00 Finish
