Coating surveys should be conducted by experienced personnel who can make sound judgment on the condition of an existing coating and develop information that can be used to make effective decisions on the management of the coatings. There are various types of coating surveys conducted throughout the industry ranging from the basic ‘walk-through’ visual inspection to the comprehensive coating survey necessary in the investigation of a coating failure.

Entry criteria

Candidates must meet one of the following criteria;

  • Qualified Coatings Inspector (ICorr level 2, NACE level 2, SSPC Level 2, FROSIO level 2)
  • Paint chemist with field experience
  • Coating Engineer with field experience
  • Coating Surveyors who do not possess formal coating inspection qualifications but can demonstrate a minimum of 5 years experience as a coating surveyor. Two employer references will be required.

Study Time: 24 hours over a 12 month period

Assessment & Final Exam: Successful completion of online assessment and final exam. The exam is multiple choice with a pass rate of 70%.

Certificate achieved: Full certification and wallet card valid for 4 years.
