Pipeline Coatings Inspector – Level 2

Pipeline Coating Inspector Level 2

Course Overview

Designed to assist candidates in gaining the skills and knowledge to transition from coating inspection to specific Pipeline Coating Inspection.

Feedback from the oil and gas pipeline industry highlights a significant need for inspectors with in-depth knowledge and understanding of high integrity pipeline coating systems.

Primarily focusing on current pipeline coatings used for onshore and offshore upstream oil and gas pipelines, this Level 2 course aims to bridge the gap between conventional painting inspection and that required for the high integrity pipeline coating systems in common use today.

Candidates will learn about the optimum quality control measures for the complete pipeline coating application process, which plays a critical role in ensuring the requisite long performance of the applied coating, as well as the key differences in functional integrity between pipeline coatings and conventional painting systems.

This Level 2 course assumes all candidates hold ICorr Painting or Protective Coating Inspector approval (any level) and therefore have some knowledge of inspection philosophy.

Suitable for coating inspectors working within the industry who are looking to gain more specialist knowledge of high integrity pipeline coating systems. This course is also applicable to clients, coating engineers within pipeline installation contractors and pipeline coaters.

Course content

Candidates will be required to revise their ICorr Protective Coating Inspector information common to both conventional coating and pipeline coating and especially surface preparation and inspection techniques.

Driving innovation in protective coatings

As a global supplier of coatings across industries, Hempel develops advanced coatings solutions to protect assets, reduce maintenance and enhance performance. One leading example is ‘Avantguard’, a patented technology that sets new standards in corrosion protection.

https://www.hempel.com/inspiration/sustainability

For over 10 years, this innovative coating solution has extended the lifetime of steel structures across a wide range of applications, from wind towers and bridges to airports and skyscrapers. It not only prolongs the lifespan of assets but also simplifies application, reduces maintenance costs and lowers CO₂ emissions. It’s the ideal corrosion protection solution for any forward-thinking asset owner, consulting engineer, contractor or applicator.

Avantguard is the world’s first zinc-rich primer to fully utilise its zinc content by activating all three methods of corrosion protection: the barrier, the inhibitor and the galvanic effect.

With its unique properties, Avantguard ensures superior durability and reduced environmental impact in addition to its easy application; offers fast drying, fewer coats, and an excellent crack-resistant finish.

And with the recent launch of Avantguard 750 Pro, setting a new industry standard for corrosion protection and building on over a decade of Hempel’s patented Avantguard technology, Hempel reaffirms its dedication to sustainability and high-performance coating systems.
